Profile

I picked this precious boy up at a RAGOM meeting today.  He was strolling down the aisles getting pets from everyone!  Bear is the sweetest pupper ever!  His history is a sad one, but I feel it is important to share because it does explain some of his behaviors.  The Humane Society in a county a couple hours away had been trying to convince Bear's family to surrender him because of neglect and starvation.  You see, Bear did not live up to their expectations (he was not interested in hunting) and they left him outside without any shelter at all and did not feed him.  He would go to the neighbor (I believe it was 1/2 mile away) and she would feed him.  She was a volunteer with the HS.  The same HS neutered him and also gave the family food for him, but kept working on them to surrender him as this would be the best thing for Bear.  Finally 2 weeks ago they agreed, which proceeded with a call to RAGOM and now he will never be cold, lonely, dirty or hungry again!  Thank you to Katie with the HS and Sue a RAGOM volunteer for bathing and brushing his mats out (oh, and making sure he did not have fleas) inviting him over for a slumber party and transporting him.

When we got home today we met the resident GR and it was the easiest intro ever!  Bear is fairly timid, so he knew she was the boss.  Bear has chronic ear infections and a hematoma in one so big that it is closing his ear canal.  We will call the vet tomorrow and get this taken care of as well as get him microchipped and updated on all vaccinations.

As far as his behavior, as stated above he is fairly shy, sweet as pie and loving.  I was told he is not potty trained, but there has not been an accident yet.  He seems familiar with "how a house works" and is currently on the couch staring at the TV watching Shaggy Dog!!  It is the funniest thing, he tilts his head everytime he hears a dog bark on the TV!  We are excited to have him at our house for Thanksgiving!  Then on Friday, Bear will be pampered at Blue Ribbon Grooming getting a makeover as a family who adopted a RAGOM dog donated sessions for foster dogs!

More to come as we spend time together getting to know this beautiful animal.

This carpet is much softer than the dirt outside – no more sleeping in the dirt for me  :  )

Quick, I got my eye on the ball on the floor!!  Thank you RAGOM for my new bed – I am dreaming about my future  :   )
