Profile

Here is Benji, a sweet and lovable 3 yr old Labradoodle.Benji was born and lived in a puppy mill until he was 11 months old and then came in to RAGOM.  For the next two years of his life, he lived in doggie heaven, had a loving mom and canine brother, made great strides at living the “Golden” life and almost lived happily ever after.  But, Benji’s owner lost her job last July, and tearfully made the decision,  a few weeks ago, that she could no longer afford to keep Benji.  For the last 1 ½ years, Benji has had chronic ear infections, and his owner just cannot afford any more vet bills, so he is back in RAGOM’s care.

And, care for him, we will…This is the plan for Benji now.  He is getting ear washes and ear drops, plus we are weaning him onto a totally different food.  Although it sounds odd, ear infections in dogs are often caused by food allergies, so we are weaning him off all his former food and treats, and starting him on a Venison and Sweet Potato kibble.  He likes it, so we hope this is what he needs.

Benji who was called Oscar before he was adopted in 2007 is a very gentle soul and easy house guest.  He definitely still exhibits the typical puppy mill traits of timidness and fear of new situations and people.  But, he is very sweet, and it is so rewarding to be gaining his trust.  Each day, he is more comfortable in our home, and worms his way in to our hearts more and more. Re-homing Benji, who through no fault of his own needs a new home, is what rescuing is all about.

Things that stand out for needs in Benji’s new home are:

Lots of love and some patience too

        A doggie sibling

No small children only because he is not used to children and probably would not be comfortable with them

A fenced yard - would be great as that is what he is used to

The means and acceptance to treat Benji’s ears if the infections continue.
