12/2/06: Bo has arrived! Bo is a taller Golden and in good health. From what I can tell, he is very fit. He is a purebred one-year-old male and has been neutered.
Bo met the resident dog Cinder and everything was fine. They haven't really played yet, but it's just been one night. I was told that Bo was fine around cats, but we don't have a cat so I can't check on that for certain. Bo is housetrained but his previous owner had him on a pretty schedule for when he was going out and we have tried to stick with the same schedule that he was used to. He is also crate-trained. He had some anxiety last night with his crate but today he is just fine in there. It was a brand new place and he is arriving just as we are moving to a new house, so he picked up on some of the stress, I'm sure.
Bo is a very sweet dog. He has a lot of energy and needs some obedience training. Bo is very attentive and I think would pick up on obedience very quickly. He does know "sit." We are teaching him "off" because if he gets too excited he will rear up on people. He's picking it up well. Bo is used to being in a fenced-in yard, but here he is on a tie out and he is fine with it. Bo does seek out attention. He will bark outside if you leave him alone and he wants to be with you. He's just over one year of age and has a lot of the retriever "need" to have something in his mouth. If he gets very excited he will put his mouth on your hand - he has a VERY soft mouth and if you say "Nope!" he remembers himself right away and wags his tail apologetically.
At one year, Bo is still in that puppy stage. He was surrendered because there was too much travel for work and Bo wasn't getting enough attention. He is energetic and will need a family committed to keeping him active mentally and physically. He is used to walking daily in addition to playtime in the backyard. Bo will chew things if he is bored, so it would be wise to be familiar with puppy-proofing and developing a keen eagle eye to make sure he is not doing something he should not. He was introduced to the Gentle Leader last night and he was OK with it after hating it for about 15 minutes.
He has a vet appointment for Monday and is looking for a new home! I made a promise to his dad that Bo will go to a wonderful family. If you want to meet this GReat guy, please email placement
