Brooklyn is 1.5 year old female golden/husky mix, she weighs in at 44 lbs minus a tail and is fostered in Owatonna, MN. She is tall and lean in stature, she is up to date on vaccines, she is great with kids of all ages, she does not resource guard toys, bones or food and she loves toys. She is good with the other dogs in my home, which happen to be seniors...she is a quick learner and respects their space.

Brooklyn has been a velcro dog since she came here, but the poor thing has been injured by a car 10/12/2011 and was seized from her owner in Kansas City Missouri. She has a fractured pelvis upper hind end and under pelvis and fractures in 2 places in her tail. She must have been in sooo much pain.
Report reads on 10/18/11 a week after the incident:
Severe crepitis (cracking noise) of both hips, she is very painful to manipulation (movement). Was hit by a car wed or thurs of last week, unable to walk for the first 2 days, unsure if she is able to urinate or defecate without difficulty-shelter will verify. Ideally, recommend referral to orthopedic surgeon for repair, amputate for the tail - she was ordered Tramadol (pain med).

On 11/10/11, she becomes a Ragom dog but unable to transport all the way to MN just yet. She will wait until 11/12/11 to be transported to my home in Owatonna, MN. When my husband picked her up her tail was gone, transport assumed it was already amputated, well it was, by Brooklyn herself. The initial area was bleeding and oozing so we called the local vet on call and she ordered pain medication and a antibiotic until I could get her to the vet in St Paul MN.

On 11/14/11 she was seen at the vet and is now cleared for surgery. I felt so bad leaving her, she was crying when I left. I was thinking how lonely and displaced she must feel. The next morning she was ready to be picked up. Her hind end is shaved and she has about 2 inches of tail, there are 6 sutures at the end of the tail and she was spayed. Poor girl....she is sore but so happy to see me and of course she has a large E collar. She is somewhat embarrassed of her back end - even when I just look at it she turns around....like don't pay attention to my butt, look at my beautiful face!

I got her home and I tried so hard to get her to rest in one place....I placed her in a 3 ft enclosure in the corner. I left the room and she leaped and cleared it! With the surgery she had that is a no,no. So the only solution was for me to take a nap.

Now we are 4 days post op and Brooklyn's pain is in good control, she is potty trained and cries and nudges you even if you are sleeping to be let out. She has had full run of the upstairs of my home so the cat can have some peace, she is good with him but she likes to chase him. She respects the gate on the stairway. She is a good eater and will not let you forget when feeding time is. She is very affectionate and loves to hug, she's not much of a kisser. She is very verbal, she talks, not as much barks, it's not even annoying. It's a soft hummm.....like a wild dog would do. It's more so when she thinks she is alone.

I think an ideal furever family would be active. She loves walks....I just hold the leash and she is ready to go. Probably frequent visits to a dog park or open area, she has a long stride when she walks. From what I have witnessed so far she can easily jump and leap over fences. She does well on a 12 ft tie out to do her business at my house. Kids or another furry friend would be awesome as she loves to play and she is very social. She would not be happy home alone or kenneled for long periods of time. She is not quite ready to go to a furever home right now but I am expecting her vet appointment on Wednesday 11/23 to go well and she will be ready to go. I hope she goes quickly because we are all falling for her bad!
