Introducing.... Captain "Jack"!
Jack came in to the local animal shelter as a stray so nothing is known about his background. He is about 60# with a beautiful red colored coat and sweet senior white face. One of the shelter workers called RAGOM because, as rough as he looked on the outside, his golden personality came shining through. He was dirty, with dred locks on his hind end, this black growth on one eye, and half a tail. My girls decided that since he reminded them of Captain Jack Sparrow that we would call him "Jack" (rough on the outside and soft on the inside).
I picked up Jack at the shelter and took him straight to the vet. He was a perfect gentleman in the car, just sitting and looking out the window. Once in the office, he let the vet poke, prod, and check him from head to toe without any problems. The vet thinks he is about 10 years old. Jack has a pea sized growth on his left lower lid and a half dollar sized growth on his left side that the vet recommended be taken off and sent to a lab to be analyzed for melanoma. He will go back on June 11th for a booster shot and hopefully have these areas removed and biopsied then.
Once home, my daughter brought our dogs to meet Jack at the park next to our house. All went well with the initial meet and greet so we all ventured home. Out in our backyard, he let me brush him, shave his dred locks, and clip his nails. He loved the brushing but was not crazy about the shaving or the nail clipping but he let me do it a little at a time. Tomorrow we'll try a full scaled bath!
Stay tuned for the next update on the adventures of Captain "Jack".
