I'd like to introduce you to Sandy, she came into RAGOM last Friday. Sandy is a golden mix, about 3 1/2 years old, she is spayed, weighs in at 70.5 pounds - just perfect according to her vet, is UTD on all her shots, is heartworm free - YEH!, and except for an issue with cats is just about perfect. We're not sure what she is mixed with but we think part Chesapeake and part something with big feet and bushey tails. She is just as pretty as she can be and really sweet too.
She rode in the car from Pine City to Hastings with no problems, she just sat up and watched the scenery go by or she got bored and laid down and took a nap. She met both of my dogs without incident, shows no resource guarding with toys, treats or food; actually she shares her food with my 6# snarkey Bella. She seems to know basic commands, is good on a leash and loves to go for walks, is housetrained and can be left with free roam at my house. I did put her in a kennel the first time I left the house and she seemed to be extremely stressed when I got back so I haven't tried putting her in it again.
Like I said earlier though, she really shouldn't be in a home with cats. She has an above normal interest in my cat and has gone so far as tried to grab her by the neck. She hasn't hurt him but she almost acts like she is stalking him when she catches sight of him. For now he will have to stay outside and in the garage.
I think Sandy's perfect home would be without cats, have a fenced yard so she can run around without being on a leash, have someone home alot, she would be fine as an only dog and she loves attention but is not pushy. She prefers to be in the same room I'm in but doesn't insist on being petted constantly.
If you think you might be interested in Sandy let your placement advisor know. I will let you know more about Sandy as we get to know her better. Oh yes, she doesn't let a small thing like a baby gate stand in her way, she doesn't go through it, she jumps over it - that way you never know she was in the 'forbidden' room unless you catch her jumping out. Such a smart girl!!
