Anyone looking for a 2 year old hunk of golden love???? If so, here's your guy!!!

Clyde (now known as Cody) came all the way from Sioux Falls, SD to Shakopee, MN last Sunday. A big thanks to Emily and Dewayne with RAGOM for transporting him! Cody was found as a stray. A nice family took him in, but was unable to keep him due to their situation.

The first thing we noticed about Cody is that he is BIG, as well as VERY handsome. He is not overweight at 90 pounds and is tall.

Cody is a golden mix. We are not sure what he is mixed with, maybe mastiff because of his size. He mainly looks like a golden retriever except for his size and the white on his chest and on his back feet. He is in excellent health and was neutered yesterday.

Even though Cody is a golden mix, his personality is 100% golden retriever. He met our family, including two children, a resident dog and cat, without problems. It was like he had always been here. He has met other dogs and people without problems.

Over the past 5 days he has shown us that despite his size, he is really just a gentle giant. He LOVES attention and thinks that he is a lap dog, which is quite interesting with his size. He also likes to get up on the furniture to sleep with you, but I have to admit that he is quite snuggly (don't tell my husband!).

He knows basic commands and he likes to play, mainly with his human companions. Our resident golden has tried to initiate play with him, but he is more interested in playing with us.

He likes car rides, especially sticking his head out the window, but is still learning how to sit still in the car. He is food motivated, but doesn't surf the counters. There was one incident at the shelter with his food, but we have removed his food and put our hands in his food, without incident.

He likes his walks, but is still learning how to walk correctly on a leash. Since he is big, he needs someone who is able to handle his weight while walking. He appears housetrained. He initially marked in the house, but has had free roam overnight and for short periods during the day without incident. He doesn't care for the crate.

Based on what we know about Cody, this is what we would recommend for his furever home:

  • A family that has a lot of love to give him as he likes attention
  • Children 12 and older or no children due to his size
  • A resident dog is not needed and Cody may prefer to be the only dog, but will hang out with a resident dog if there is one, he probably won't be a playmate for the resident dog though
  • Cats are fine
  • A fence is not needed as he stays close, but a fence is always welcome
  • A family dedicated to exercising him and training him

If you would like to meet Cody he will be at the PetSmart in New Brighton this Saturday, November 21, from 11 am to 1 pm, otherwise contact your placement advisor.
