Profile

11/5/06: Master Comet, age 12 months, has arrived to share our home for awhile. He is small at 47 lbs (which we will help to fill out) and is a sweet boy. He has a very expressive face and two little tuffs of hair above each eye that adds more expression. Master Comet (MC) was an owner surrender due to a broken leg. He was kindly repaired at a local vet, and now is the proud owner of a plate and six screws on his left front leg. They said even in pain he was a good boy at the vet. While he was having his leg repaired, they took care to ensure he didn't have the opportunity to add to the doggie population. He will go back to have his staples removed in about two weeks. Meanwhile he is NOT in a cast, is allowed to put weight on his leg as he is comfortable with. When we are not home he will wear an "E" collar to keep from licking surgical areas and will reside in a Mastiff size crate. I can only imagine what it will be like with Coulter visiting him.

MC was a little growly with me when we first met, but after having the vet tech leave the room we quickly become friends. He rode home in the Doggie Mobile like it was a natural thing to do. He didn't seem to understand why I wouldn't let him jump in, but did allow me to lift him in. We arrived home, did our quick little tour of the outdoors and he immediately pottied. He was greeted by resident Reba (our 14 yr old GR) and after a minute of sniffing all was well. We had no idea about the cat situation, and we had recently added a new boy to our household, Coulter the Cat. Let's just say Master Comet thinks Coulter is the best playmate ever. :) Coulter likes to "box" MC and as you can see in the picture they are both fine. :)

MC does want to wolf his food down. He is not really guarding his food, but I have decided to hand feed him til he understands he will get plenty of food from us humans, a warm bed and lots of love. Speaking of beds, he didn't feel the huge corduroy dog bed was to his liking and thus spent the night on the bed with me. I don't think he ever moved. Just have to remember to get him outside to potty right away. I tried a stop off in the human bathroom, and MC felt he should use the facilities as well. :) Live and learn.

We all have seen dogs "wrinkle up" their nose, and some people think they are baring their teeth, but in many cases they are "smiling" and this is what MC does and is so cute. He listens, sits, comes and knows the word No. He hasn't lifted his leg (he squatted in the bathroom) or counter surfed. He does make a funny little noise... not a whine or growl, more of a moan when laying down. He gives kisses and wags his tail with gratitude for anything done for him... especially when given his bedtime treat.

So if you have another dog or a cat, you know Comet will be fine with them. He's young enough to adjust new environments rather quickly as he proved at the vet and now at our house. If you are an approved applicant or would like to be, contact RAGOM. MC is defintely able to meet new people.
