Profile

1/8/07: Cooper is an exuberant and playful 7 month old puppy who was rescued as a stray. He is tall with a thin build and has a nice coat and a beautiful face with lots of expression. Cooper gets very excited over meeting new people and dog friends as is typical for his age – with instruction he calms down quickly and does what is asked of him extremely well. Cooper has had some obedience training and does well with sit, floor (down), front (come) and wait (stay) and he walks nicely on leash. He is clearly a very smart boy. He also likes to play fetch with balls or toys. Cooper is also doing very well with house training and does not have accidents provided he is let outside every 3 or 4 hours. He will go to the door and bark when he wants out or in, often when it is getting time for his potty break. He can also go a full 8 hours at night without being crated – he sleeps beside the bed quietly and without roaming around the house or needing to go out – he just loves being with people. Cooper does not like being in a crate or otherwise separated from his people. He barks a great deal if he hears people in the house while he’s crated. After about 30 minutes with no response and a quiet house he will quiet himself and rest. Due to his age Cooper would not be trustworthy left alone in the house unattended as he is too young and exuberant not to be destructive so he will need to work on crate training.

Cooper is not protective of his food but he does eat as if he may never get another meal, which is probably from going hungry in his days on the street. Cooper has a very gentle mouth and takes treats very nicely. He also is gentle with his mouth when playing and rough-housing over toys. Cooper loves being with people and loves laying in your lap and dozing and would do so for hours if given the chance. He does well with young children and other dogs but needs supervision so that he does not get overly excited as he tends to like to “play wild” and will leap and bound as he romps if not reminded to slow down and be gentle. When reminded Cooper is able to play nicely in the house with other dogs and young kids. Cooper is a really nice pup with great intelligence, he is going to make an wonderful family pet given the proper attention. He has a lot of energy so plenty of exercise and time spent teaching Cooper his boundaries and manners will be richly rewarded.
