Profile

Please welcome Sir Cooper into the Ragom family. The shelter thought he was 10 years old but he has seen 4 vets now and they all guess him to be around 8 years old. He is by far the most “regal” looking golden I have ever fostered but that title does not match his personality at all. Cooper is one big goof! Did I say BIG? He is a whopping 100 pounds and definitely needs to lose some weight. I think with some exercise and some good “lite” food he will have no problem taking this weight off. Already I have taken 2 pounds off him and I just got him Saturday. The green beans did not go over too well nor did the carrots. He LOVES popcorn and cereal. He LOVES to walk but a gentle leader is a must. He does not like it, but when he gets going on his walk he forgets all about it. I need to be diligent in having him wear it and in no time he will become accustomed to it.

He has been vetted and almost given a clean bill of health. He has a case of hookworms which we are treating and also a lick granuloma which appears to be something he has had for quite some time. We would like to get it cleared up though.  He is not a good candidate for a traditional cone so I have some awful tasting stuff that I put on his leg when I am gone or we are sleeping.  So far it seems to help. We just need to break the cycle and it should heal.

Cooper has a beautiful coat. Deep red with gorgeous feathering in the back. He is a dream to bathe and loves to be brushed.  He also LOVES people.  He follows me everywhere. If I happen to scold him for something (like licking his leg) he will immediately go to my husband with “The Look”.  As if he were abused.  Funny boy!

He gets along with all dogs and even lived with a cat at one time.  He does seem to be prey driven so those pesky squirrels really know how to tweak him.

If you are looking for an energetic 8 year old and are willing to help him get this weight off, he could be the boy for you. Honestly, he is such a BIG, silly boy!
