Cooper is an 8 month old (DOB 11/11/14), pure-bred, male golden retriever. He weighs about 40 pounds and is a little too thin. He is adorable! But he is a TEENAGER. He is not fully house-trained but he keeps his kennel clean overnight. Cooper was surrendered to RAGOM due to his high energy level. I haven't seen anything out of ordinary for a teen puppy. He needs lots of exercise, but then is calm in the house.
Cooper needs a forever family that is committed to providing positive reinforcement training. He seems to have a little stubborn streak. But, he's come a long way in just a few days, so I know he's smart enough to learn. So far he knows sit and wait and walks pretty well on a leash. Considering he's thin, he sure isn't very treat motivated.
Cooper hasn't been around kids here yet, but he loves all people and was really trying to get to the kids at the park when we walked yesterday so I think he would love them. But, he's still a puppy. Kids and puppies must be monitored continuously.
When coming into RAGOM's care, Cooper was neutered and given a full exam. Poor Cooper has infections in both ears and dry, scaly skin on his tummy. We are feeding him a grain-free food with salmon and he will probably need to be fed grain-free his whole life. If the skin issues keep up, allergy testing may be needed. So a potential adopter needs to be aware that his care may cost a little more than average.
Cooper's favorite things are car rides, walks and digging. Fortunately, we have an approved area for him to dig and he's catching on quickly to the appropriate place. Cooper and our young resident dog get along wonderfully! They run, wrestle and play tug for hours a day. A friend's dog came to visit and he did great with her too.
