8/4/05: It is my distinct honor to welcome Daisy into RAGOM. Daisy has not lived the best life so far, but from today forward she will be living a truly Golden life. Daisy recently raised a litter of puppies, and after all the puppies were gone she was surrendered to a Humane Society. Upon learning that she was heartworm positive and would likely need lots of love & attention to get on the road to wellness, the HS contacted RAGOM to help her. She is a petite little gal of about 3 years, weighing just 50 pounds. I'm sure the vet will tell us she needs to gain some weight because she is very thin. When she was spayed, Daisy was found to have pyometra, in which the uterus is infected. She is taking antibiotics for a couple of weeks to be sure the infection is completely gone.
At the time of our first meeting today, Daisy put her head on my shoulder and I believe she even whispered "Thank You" into my ear for picking her up. As soon as we got home & introduced her to our 2 dogs, we gave her a quick shower to get most of the surface grime off. Oh, my, what a beauty she was under all the dirt! I've brushed about a pound of fur out so far, and there's still lots to spare. Once she's feeling a bit better, we'll attempt a bath. She has been a wonderful houseguest so far, and is content to be wherever she can see me ~ the closer the better. No accidents so far, but with 3 dogs, they are in & out often.
Daisy will be visiting the vet tomorrow (8/5) to be sure she is UTD with shots and to determine the extent and necessary treatment for her heartworm. Because of this, she may not be available for adoption right away; we'll have to see what the doctor says.
