9/6/05: Dallas arrived at our home last evening. He is a skinny, scared little guy. He rode well in the car and was glad to see the resident dog, Mike. He was reluctant to eat at first, but ate well once he realized he was safe. He laid under the kitchen table while we ate, and didn't beg. He's seen so much in the last few days that he seems a little overwhelmed. Dallas doesn't know his name yet. He was a stray and so thin and dehydrated when they found him, they had to give him an IV to get some fluids in him. He is very sweet, but not very interested in people or treats. We'll get some liver snacks to see if that perks his interest. This morning after breakfast on our second walk, he actually got frisky and played keep away with Mike and the best stick in the whole world. He proceeded to lay down and chew the bark off in the grass. Then he rolled and rolled in the grass. He decided today he really does like peanut butter (not interested last evening). He needs to settle in before we start working on simple commands. He appears to have been yelled at or beaten, as he has rolled on his back or cowered when I raised my voice. This boy is a beautiful diamond in the rough. We've scheduled his neuter for Wednesday, and by this weekend he will be available for adoption. He is painfully thin and we need to work on his muscle tone, too. We'll give this guy a lot of loving, security and some structure so he can come out of his shell.
