9/11/07: "Green Acres Dixie" has made the long trek from a puppy mill in Arkansas to RAGOM. She came along with a caravan of other puppy mill dogs and a few dogs rescued from a shelter in Missouri. Upon her arrival, she was vetted, bathed, and kept overnight at the intake facility. You see, Dixie hadn't found a foster home to go to!
Poor Dixie girl is still without a foster home so was moved to doggy daycare where she can spend her days playing and socializing with other dogs and people. She immediately became a staff favorite as she is playful with all the other dogs, comes when called, is a quiet girl and an excellent listener.
Dixie is just finishing her heat cycle so will be able to be spayed in about 3-4 weeks. Hopefully, she will find a foster very soon who can keep her through that time period, see her through her spay surgery, and then find her the perfect home.
Dixie will make a great second dog for some lucky family. She walks well on leash but enjoys off leash play time and wrestle time with other dogs. She also loves to play with toys (ball, tug rope, etc...) and is quickly learning to fetch.
Because of Dixie's background, she can be a bit nervous/timid in new situations. She will need a family who is willing to be patient with her and understand that she has had a rough start in life. I am certain she would love to take obedience classes and would be great at agility as she is lean and quick with her movements!
If you are willing to wait for the love of you life and think Dixie might be a good match for your family, please email placement
