Meet Duncan, a gentle 6-year-old Golden mix. He weighs 38 lbs, has fawn coloring with medium short silky fur and a tail that is constantly wagging. He is such a love. He had his well vet check and is up-to-date on all vaccinations and preventatives. He is a little on the thin side, though, so needs to put on some weight. He is intact and is scheduled to be neutered in a couple of weeks. Duncan is a very special boy because he has very limited vision--I think he notices changes in light/shadows, but that’s about it. He is scheduled to see an eye specialist in February to assess his vision and to look at his cherry eye.

Duncan came to RAGOM from a shelter in North Dakota. Everyone who meets him falls in love. He is a happy boy and he has incredibly open and trusting energy. He is a complete love bug--the most affectionate dog I've fostered. He is a snuggler like none other!

Even with his restricted vision, Duncan navigates amazingly well around the house. He LOVES to go for walks and walks pretty well with a flat collar and leash in the heel position, and loves it when I step up the pace and jog. I take him for lots of walks in the woods by our house too using the expandable leash where he gets to smell to his heart’s content. H e immediately chills out w hen we get back in the house after walking. He is well-behaved and mellow, but he does have his silly playful moments too, which are extra adorable!

Duncan gets anxious when he is crated, so we've been leaving him free roam when we are not home. We keep the steps gated off and doors to a few rooms closed. He's done extremely well with that. We’ve been gone a couple of times for 5-hour stretches, and he was waiting at the door, excited to see us with his tail wagging when we got back. He does fine with cats—he tries to get the friendlier one to play, and he backs off when the crabby one hisses at him. I haven’t tested him with children, but I anticipate he’ll be great. When we went to the vet office for his checkup, the vet’s two elementary-aged kids were just coming into the clinic. He heard them talking and started pulling really excitedly to get to them.

He is completely housebroken. He hasn’t had any marking incidents or potty accidents. There has been no resource guarding of any kind. He will do fine as an only dog or in the company of a dog who is not too rambunctious.

Duncan is doing great going out on a leash to do his business, but a fenced yard will give him some independence to stretch out and explore. He comes immediately when I call him. The vet said he'll do best if he has a person or family who will keep him physically active. He gets a little nervous riding in a car, but he seems to really like the challenge and stimulation of going new places. He’s had some training in the past and knows basic commands: sit, down, roll over, stay, come, shake. It will be so rewarding to work with him and help this beautiful boy reach his highest potential. He is so ready to be a faithful companion and is about as sweet as they come!
