Gabby made the long trip from Rapid City, SD and now calls Lakeville, MN her temporary home. She came to Ragom from the Humane Society, and prior to that was a stray. According to her discharge papers from the Humane Society upon admission was very fearful and only weighed 30.1 pounds. Granted she is a smaller Golden but was/is very emaciated. Since being in foster care she has had a very good appetite and is receiving five meals per day. Today she ate 2.5 times the food per day required to sustain a larger active male Golden. You will note in her pictures that she is still extremely thin, but I am confident with continued good food she will up to her ideal weight in no time.
While Gabby has only been in foster care for a little more than a day, a very sweet and gentle personality is coming through. Currently she is a little bit frightened of meeting new people, but warms up some after just a few minutes. I have not hear a peep from her and likes to sleep in her crate. Finally, it appears that she may be potty trained as she so far has not had an accident in the house.
This evening Gabby had her wellness exam and did very well. Also her weight has increased to 39 pounds! Currently we are waiting for the results of her fecal and blood tests. Unfortunately, she has not been altered and will need to have spay surgery before she can be adopted. Also, she needs to gain more weight, and be stronger, before any operation will be considered. However, it all goes well she could be ready for her spay in just a few weeks. The vet's best estimation is that she is around three years old.
More to come as I get to know this girl a little better.
If you are looking for a smaller female Golden, Gabby could be the dog for you. Please contact Ragom Placement for consideration.
