Profile

5/13/06: George was a stray who walked up to a Good Samaritan's house and made himself welcome about a month ago. The Good Samaritan couldn't keep him long-term so called RAGOM and I welcomed the opportunity to foster a senior Golden. We met this afternoon and when it was time to go, George wasn't at all sure that he should leave his friend to come with me (and the feeling was mutual). After we coaxed him into the van and gave him a couple of treats, he laid down and slept all the way home.

Once we got home, George apparently thought one of my plants was a pine tree so baptized it as only a male dog can do. He ate a good dinner, took a swim, had a bath and now is sprawled out on a doggie bed behind a babygate so I can run him outside as soon as he wakes up. He was an outside dog in his former life and we have to take care of that little old housetraining issue and the sooner the better.

George is a very handsome purebred Golden with a reddish coat and white face - - he captured my heart the minute I laid eyes on him. My preference for seniors is because they are GReat companions and are so mellow. Oh, they still love to play and take walks and will soak up as much attention as you have time to give, but they aren't demanding. George is a cuddler...if I'm standing, he leans in and when I sit down, he scoots in close and lays his big old head in my lap.

George was vetted while with his Good Samaritan and treated for lymes disease; otherwise, he just needs to put on a little weight.

George has an appointment with the vet on Monday, so will update you then.
