Ginger 14-238 [1]

Welcome Ginger to RAGOM!! Ginger came into RAGOM with her sister Maggie 14-239. Ginger is a Golden mix, but it's hard to see the 'mix' in her as she looks pure Golden. My guess by looking at her sister Maggie 14-239 who was a litter mate to Ginger that the mix is probably Lab. She has all the sweet wonderful characteristics of a Golden Retriever. Ginger will turn 7 years old on Sept. 30th . Ginger and Maggie's family are moving and were unable to take these sweet girls with them. After watching these girls together for a week I feel they do not need to stay together and will be fine apart. I do have Ginger down as needing another dog, but if she has a family that is home more then not she would do fine with that. 

Ginger met our female resident dog and got along great with her. She made the transition into our home with no problems. Ginger wasn't into playing with toys, balls or fetching, but she has started to pick up a stuffed toy and carry it around or take it to bed with her. The squeakers really fascinate her and I have seen her finish de-stuffing a toy. She's so good about placing the stuffing to the side so there are no worries that she will ingest it. Ginger will do a very soft play wrestle with her sister, but it lasts for maybe a minute or two. She is just so gentle and low key. She has the Golden nudge and will so very gently nudge your hand with her head for petting. Ginger does have an occasional nightmare and she will give out 1 quick bark in her sleep which then wakes her up. All you need to do is say 'Ginger it's okay' and she will fall asleep again. Since arriving to our home she has done this twice and I equate her nightmares to a human talking in their sleep.If someone asked me to describe Ginger in one word it would be 'perfect'. She so loving, will sit or lay by you for petting, loves to lay in the kitchen and watch me cook, doesn't beg for food, doesn't get up on furniture (which she is welcome to do in our home), rides nice in the car and sticks her head out the window to see all that's passing by her, loves to be groomed and will fall asleep when your brushing her. Ginger is full of facial expressions and gets a goofy look on her face when she hears or sees something - it's so darn cute. She does a happy dance at feeding time - she'll spin in circles, prance with her feet and swing her head back and forth like a horse. Ginger will wake you in the morning by nuzzling you or she'll lay her head on you telling you it's 'time to get up'. Ginger is the kind of dog that just doesn't want to miss out on anything that's going on in the home even if that means falling asleep with her head upright. She's such a silly, sweet good girl. There is no need to kennel Ginger and from her past she's never been kenneled. I've left Ginger and Maggie home alone for 2 hours with no problems and could easily be left longer. The only thing we've had to work on with Ginger is her barking at/with the neighbors dogs (the neighbor dogs bark) on the other side of our fence and she's gotten much better. I just call her to me and tell her it's time to go inside and usually she will follow me. The calling her to me and both of us walking away together distracts her and the barking ends. 
All Ginger's vetting is completed and she's a very healthy girl. All dogs near her age are getting closer to their first dental cleaning and Ginger could use one in the future. She has one tooth that the vet thought could be looked at during her cleaning. It's not bothering her now so there was no need for it to be pulled. Ginger would make a great companion dog for someone that's looking for a mellow, happy, laid back dog. She's a big napper and would love to snuggle up with you while your reading a book or watching a movie. She would also love someone to show her the outdoors and build up her stamina. She loves her walks and will pull slightly (not hard) for a distance then settles down and walks nicely. Ginger did meet some children with the youngest being 8 years old. She loves children, but tires easily with rambunctious children and will go lay down. Her perfect child would be one that wants to snuggle with her, lay on the floor and watch a movie with her or be her quieter best friend. If Ginger could go shopping on her own in a pet store the first place she'd head would be the dog bed section. Ginger loves all sorts of dog beds and will try out all of ours in the house - moving to a different one during different times of the day.
