Please welcome Goldie 10-035 into the RAGOM family! Goldie is a 9 year old Golden wannabe. She's a purebred yellow Lab, which is basically a Golden in a sassy short coat. My husband calls her a "sistah from another mistah." Her family had a change in circumstance and through no fault of her own, this little cutiepie is now in RAGOM's care. Goldie should have been named Cindy Crawford for her fetching dark mole on her upper lip. She's also got Cindy's beautiful dark brown eyes, super model figure and a catwalk wiggle in her walk! Unlike Cindy Crawford, Goldie has a pretty bad allergic reaction going on. She's got two large hot spots on her hips and other areas of redness and itchiness on her skin. She spent a few hours at the vet today getting shaved and cleaned up and is already feeling better. She has some pills to take that will help reduce the inflammation and reaction from the inside out. She's also going to transition to a high-quality non-allergenic dog food that is chock full of fish oils and omega 3 fatty acids. Her ears were a little red but not infected. Yay! Her heartworm and poop-test came back negative, so there's no nasty stowaways joining the party. Goldie weighed 66.3 pounds and is very lean and trim, and a great weight so as to not stress her hips or knees. Goldie has been trained as a hunting dog in her past and is really good at fetching and dropping. She will make someone a very loveable companion who likes to fetch, but won't go bonkers begging to play. She's really mellow and sweet. She loves being petted and groomed and really likes chin scritches. She shows interest in our garbage can, but it's covered and we put it away at night to reduce temptation. She is very interested in food preparation and is working on a career as a sous chef. She doesn't counter surf....yet...but we don't leave temptation out. We are woking on giving her some comfort-time in a crate. She is not entirely cat trustworthy. She was startled last night when Flying Cat landed with a thud very close to her and today she's been plotting payback. The cats are faster and have vertical capability, so we aren't terribly worried that she will hurt them. But removing temptation is best untl she's relaxed and acclimated to them. Her previous family indicated that she was great with kids of all ages. She sleeps on her dog bed in our room. She paced last night, but it was due to her itchies. She is a bit of a talker. She has a soft woofwoof is she wants something and makes all sorts of whines and grunts and huffs and whistles. She's not a barker, but definately likes to chat. Goldie is looking for a loving forever home that will be committed to walking her, watching for her allergic reactions and treating them promptly and loving the stuffing right out of her. She's a sweet girl and wondering why she's had this big change in her life. I keep telling her that she's won the doggy lottery by becoming a RAGOM dog. She is good with kids, adults, other dogs and probably cats once she learns they usually walk and not fly. Watch this Update for more on Goldie!
