7/11/06: Meet Gracie!!! Gracie is a 7 years young dark red beauty, a bit overweight, but a beauty nonetheless. Gracie was very loved in her previous home and her family was very sad to have to part with her. I promised them that RAGOM would find Gracie a wonderful forever home. Grace has been to the vet, got all of her shots updated, and got a clean bill of health. She had a benign lump removed from her front leg and two broken teeth pulled during her dental.
Gracie is a beautiful soul that loves and gets along with everyone and everything. She likes to cuddle and be petted (what Golden doesn't) and she has no problem giving a little nudge if you stop petting her before she decides she's done being petted. Gracie loves to run and swim, but gets a little sore in the hip area if she overdoes it. I put her on glucosamine, so we'll see if that helps. A 10-15 pound drop in weight would help as well. Grace loves to fetch, but isn't always interested in dropping the ball. Gracie lived with little kids and was great with them. She would let them take bones and toys out of her mouth.
Grace's former family told me that Grace is terrified of rain and storms, but is not destructive during them. She will hide and shake and refuses to go outside. The night I brought her home, we had a storm. At the first roll of thunder, Grace took off into the dining room and I followed her. She got her 80 pound body into a kennel that I keep my 8 pound Poodle in - how the heck she did it, I do not know. By the time I saw her, she had her body turned around so her head was facing the front of the kennel. I immediately took pictures! I let her be and, after a while, she came out and joined the family again.
Grace is perfect in every way, EXCEPT......she's a digger! Left to her own devices, she will dig to China. If I'm outside with her, she's fine. If she's out without a human for any length of time, expect a hole to China. I think it's Gracie's way of saying "I'm a people dog - please don't leave me alone!" Her previous family told me that she liked to hide bones and treats in the couch, but I haven't seen that yet. Maybe because we keep our bones outside. She could be the official Easter Egg hider for children's parties!!
Grace is a happy, well mannered girl, and will make a wonderful addition to the right family.
Pictures coming soon!
