Profile
Grace is a large young healthy female golden retriever/labrador retriever mix. She was surrendered by a family who loved her, but were not able to handle her adult size and energy level. Grace is friendly and high energy and needs a family willing to give her plenty of exercise and attention. We don't believe she was properly socialized outside of the family, and therefore she exhibits fear through barking when she is fenced in a kennel or yard. She needs a family willing to take her to obedience training and/or provide other methods of socialization outside of the home environment. She is not aggressive at all, the barking is just a front. She walks well on a leash and is friendly to strangers she meets along the way. She gets along well with other dogs. She lived with a cat and kittens, and would chase them but never hurt them. We think she would play too rough with small children, so prospective families should have no children under 10 years old.
Grace is a beautiful dog, weighing 65 pounds, with medium brown eyes and long black wavey fur which is soft with a high sheen. Her health is excellent, and she was brought up-to-date with all vaccinations in mid-December, including being tested for heartworm (negative) and lymes (negative). She will be two years old in February. She has a loving personality, but is not a velcro dog. She's been sleeping with our resident dogs either on dog beds or the couch. Although she did do some potty-marking when she first came to our home, we believe it was stress-related, as this is no longer a problem. She does not have very good manners around people food, and we are working on that. She knows sit, stay and how to wait for a treat. She rides fine in a car.
Grace will be spayed in the next few days, but is ready to meet prospective adoptive families now -- just contact your placement advisory.
