Profile

Hawley arrived to our home in Sioux Falls, SD for foster care last Sunday, October 25th. She came in with a great senior girl named Hupi (09-430). These two lovely rescue girls came from a shelter in northern Minnesota together. They had been there for a fair while and also, our girl, Hawley, had been in a high-kill shelter prior to this recent shelter placement she came from, and was about to be euthanized when the one prior shelter, somehow got next to the other (current) shelter, where Ragom was contacted and both girls got into rescue and saved their lives. I would venture to guess that prior to the very first shelter Hawley was at, she was on her own, as a stray, so she has had quite a sad/depressing/lonesome past. On that note, we can also tell that Hawley must have had a home. She is fully potty trained and is not fearful at all of household things/items/noises. She has had a home in her past and beyond that part, of course, we know nothing else. [We fosters just try to ‘read’ the best we can behind those big brown eyes and piece together what we think ‘may have been’ in their past]. This is a short so-called ‘history’ of what we have learned about Hawley girl thus far. I will begin to try and describe what I can for now.

  • Hawley (Hollie) is about 6 years old- spayed
  • She weighs 67# (and sure does not look like it…in great shape)
  • Missing a couple teeth on the bottom
  • She is a smaller golden
  • She totally gets along with other dogs
  • She totally gets along with cats
  • She is totally housebroke
  • She does not bark
  • LOVES to be pet /loved

She is just a delight to foster and is so well mannered. She is a dark ‘copper’ color and in the sun (whenever we get that…….) very golden highlights. Now that she was groomed, we have a super nice coat. (She was sprayed by a skunk prior to getting into the shelter and poor dirty skin). There will be more to come however, I just cannot say enough about what a wonderful, gentle, kind golden girl she is. (Loves her doggie pillows too). If anyone is ready for just the model golden retriever, here she is!
