5/12/06: Welcome to RAGOM, Jessie. Jessie came from a family who has had her for years, but could no longer keep her; we promised to treat her like royalty and find her a fabulous new family. She weighs 62 pounds, which is a good weight for her. She went to the vet today for a checkup, and is in good health, except for testing very, very positive for Lyme's Disease (as in so positive it showed positive as soon as they started the test, which usually takes 3 minutes). She will take Doxycycline for her Lyme's Disease - 2 doses a day for a month. The good news is she's not showing any symptoms of the disease. She is now up to date on all her vaccinations, has gotten a microchip, has a dose of Frontline & Heartguard to take, and had her very long toenails trimmed. Through all of the poking & prodding & trimming at the vet she was a perfect patient and didn't utter a peep. Her teeth are pretty icky, so we're going to treat her to some raw bones over the next few days to see if it helps at all, or she may need a dental cleaning done. The vet also commented that Jessie has very little muscle mass on her body, so we're hoping some nice relaxing walks will help build some muscle.

Jessie is a very pretty blonde 9 year old with just a bit of white on her face. She is a very gentle soul who loves to be near people. My 4 year old and I bathed her first thing and she loved the attention. She is right now curled up taking a little snooze, which I'm sure she needs after the past couple of hectic days. She doesn't seem to know any commands, not even sit, but does whine at the door to go outside. She's getting along great with my two dogs, and is rumored to get along with cats as well. She slipped out of the leash today and didn't leave my side, so I don't think she'd be much of a runner ~ in fact, my 6 year old has her outside on a leash and she is sticking right at her side.

I'd like a couple more days to get to know Jessie a bit better, but if so far she sounds like a gal you'd like to meet, don't hesitate to email placement and ask to talk to me.
