Katie is an awesome 5 year old female from a puppy mill in Tennessee.  With all the filth washed off she is a beautiful medium/dark golden.  She is very gentle and sweet girl that likes to be around people, she is just scared.  She is very timid and tends to slink around until she finds a safe spot such as in the bedroom corner and by the bookcase/computer.  She will go outside but she is afraid to approach the door if anyone else is near it, so you have to go in or out first and keep going.  If you stop she will turn around and go back.  If I put a leash on her she will then follow me pretty well. 

Katie will creep out of her safe spot in the bedroom to see where you are but once you turn and look at her she turns and runs back.  She does well with free roam at night and while we are at work.  Even though Katie was an outdoor dog, in the week we have had her she only had one accident - on the one day we were unable to come home midday to let her out.  We were quite excited the past weekend when we saw Katie and our young resident dog playing chase in the yard. 

Katie went to the vet for a general check up.  Other than her dirty ears, a few bad teeth, and a reported grade 1 heart murmur (minor and typically no treatment required) which our vet was unable to detect she seems healthy.  Katie's protein levels were borderline low, and will be rechecked when she goes in for her spay.  Her teeth will be taken care of at that time too.  More to come as we learn more about Katie.
