Profile

Cash, formerly known as Keswick, came to stay with us this past Saturday.  Cash was originally a RAGOM dog who was just a puppy when he came into rescue after RAGOM helped rescue 85 golden retrievers from a puppy mill in North Dakota in the spring of 07.  He was adorable then, just as he is now, and was quickly adopted by a loving family.  Unfortunately, the family fell on hard times and they sadly surrendered Cash back to RAGOM.  They named him Cash when they adopted him and that's what we are calling him.  It fits him very well.  AND Johnny Cash is my favorite musical artist so I've always thought it'd be cool to have a dog named Cash!

Cash's birthday is 1/25/07 which makes him just over 4 years old.  I am falling fast for this big, tall clown.  He rode very well in the car to get here and to/from the vet today.  He is a very sweet golden boy who has proven to be good with other dogs, including the lab puppy next door and even a charging golden down the street last night on our walk.  He is very good with our 22 month old toddler son and shows no signs of anxiety when they are together.

He knows sit, stay and lay down, but will not drop on command.  Although he trades very easily for a treat.

Cash went to the vet today and weighed in at 83.8#.  He is a bit overweight and the vet said he could lose 5-8 lbs, but was not overly worried.  Cash is getting plenty of playtime with Lucy (our resident Golden) and fetch/walks with us.  I think he will shed the lbs quickly and be in game shape in no time.  Cash is great health otherwise and tested well on everything, but unfortunately he tested positive for Lyme Disease.  So he is on some antibiotics for that and should be over it in a couple weeks.

Cash is a tall boy and will soon be lean too.  He is a really sweet boy that can be just a clown.  He seems to be a bit needy at this point, but I believe that is because he is still learning us and our routines.  He has already settled down alot from the first night he was with us, where he actually slept under our bed.  Cash is quickly learning about us here.

On both walks we've taken Cash on, he likes to be out front, but does not pull.  He and Lucy keep a good pace and trot right along.

Cash had free roam in his previous house and we are going with that here. He does not like being in a crate.  We're told he will chew on paper when alone if paper is left out and he is a countersurfer, although we have not seen this yet.  We keep our counters pretty clear since we have a toddler in the house.

We are still getting to know him, but here are some early thoughts on what we'd like to see for this big boy.

- fenced in yard so he can run and stretch those long legs
- children should be ok.
- another dog is ok
- curious about cats, and wants to chase ours but it appears to be a play thing

There will be more updates to come on Cash so check back often.  Thank you for reading up on him.  Please let your placement advisor know if you have interest in meeting him.
