Meet the little majestic man in the puppy suit, Knight. He IS like a knight in shining armour...young but regal. Just beautiful. He is reported to be 1/2 Black Lab and 1/2 Golden Retriever and was born on 1/3/11. At just over six months, he looks like a shiny black dog with a golden's body and light feathery fur. He is VERY soft and loves to be rubbed. He did very well in the dog shower-quite enjoyed it in fact and took great joy in the towel rub down. He seems to be a smiler.
Knight is adjusting well to our family of two resident dogs and three young children. He seems to respect his place in the pack and although he doesn't have any formal training, has already picked up how to walk on the gentle leader and how to sit. He is not pulling on the leash but it seems to be new to him. While very timid the first hour, he relaxed quickly and is having a grand old time romping with our resident Golden and Flat Coat. He lets them know when he is ready to play and plops down when he is ready to rest. While cautious at first, this boy is sweet and gentle and shows lots of affection!! He has darling puppy dog eyes that glare at you with innocence. He attempted one jump on the furniture but respected the word "no" and has not tried it again. He is respectful of the baby gates.
Knight has been with us less than 24 hours with no accidents or incidents. He settles down in his crate after initially protesting. His crate is in the laundry room and when I put the resident dogs in the laundry room with him, he takes comfort in that. No accidents in the crate either except for the initial car sickness he had when we were bringing him home and that was minimal. He is not quite a velcro dog but he is clearly associating me with the hand that feeds him - quite literally - he will gently nibble the food from my hand and greets me with a body wag.
We've been on several walks and he's enjoyed them both solo with me as well as group walks with the dogs and kids.
This little man is a catch!!
He has his vet check tomorrow and we'll know more after that about when he will be available.
