5/18/06: Lego is a 4 month old Golden who was found as a stray near Rapid City, South Dakota. He has a beautiful light-colored coat and he is just starting to grow some feathers. He weighs 40 pounds and has some big feet, so he will be a big boy.
Today Lego was pulled from an over-croweded shelter along with Leo 06-222 and Snuggles 06-223 and the three of them made a long trip across two states. We are lucky enough to spend some time with this boy during his first night in foster care. Lego, Leo and Snuggles gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "shelter stench" and Lego had to endure THREE baths tonight (oatmeal shampoo, tomato juice and oatmeal shampoo again)! He was easily the most patient foster we have ever had when it comes to the initial bathing. He also tolerated my extensive brushing in between trips to the tub. Now he smells faintly of oatmeal and tomato, but that is like a delicate perfume compared to his original scent. Lego would like everyone to know that while he was patient with the bathing, it's not his idea of a good time. He does, however, enjoy the extra snuggling that he's getting now that he doesn't stink.
Lego has played very nicely with our resident Golden. It was also reported that he played very nicely with all of the other dogs he met along his journey today. He is respecting our toy poodle who is "queen bee" of the canines in this house. He hasn't paid any attention to the cats and they aren't hiding from him, so this is a good sign (they usually do a fantastic job of judging which dogs might try to eat them and hightail it to the basement). Between baths, Lego was having a great time "fishing" for the helicopter seed pods from our maple tree that had fallen in to our dog swimming pool. I'd imagine that if you have a house or cabin on a lake, he would (pretend to) be a great minnow fisherman!
