Lucky was a stray Golden Retriever that eventually was taken in by a Humane Society. Because Lucky was a stray there is very little background information about him. We began fostering Lucky, Saturday, July 16th, at our home in Fargo, ND. Lucky has had a severe injury to his rear, right leg in the past which did not heal properly. Consequently, his range of motion in his right rear leg has been reduced. When standing he puts most of his weight on his left rear leg. His right rear leg has less muscle mass. Last Tueday we had Lucky to the vet for a wellness check. He said Lucky's right rear knee (stifle) is thicker than normal so he may have actually fractured it from the past trauma. The good news is it doesn't seem to cause Lucky any pain and he gets along fine with both walking and running. While at the vet Lucky had all his necessary shots and is now up to date. He also has a very serious, contagious, upper respiratory infection for which the has vet prescribed antibiotics. He is scheduled to be neutered August 4th, if his infection is all cleared up by then. His appetite has not been very good and we have had to hand feed him. He only weighs 59 pounds and is about two years old. He looks thin. So he has a birth date, we decided to use July 4, 2003. The vet thought that would be very close to his actual birth date. He gets along nicely with our two Goldens and has a very nice temperament. He is not very energetic and sleeps alot but that could be due to his infection and the medication. He likes to stay close to either Liz or myself most of the time. He hasn't had any accidents in our house and is allowed to go anywhere he cares too. He sleeps on the floor next to our bed at night. Once Lucky gets over his illness and puts on some weight he will be a gorgeous looking boy. We feel very lucky to be able to foster Lucky and help him get back to a healthy Golden Retriever. He is a real winner!!
