My latest foster Lucy 10-336 arrived on Saturday around noon. She met my two goldens with no issues. She was a bit overwhelmed by one of my guy's initial exuberance, but once he calmed down, she decided he was okay too. Lucy is a four-year-old female, petite at only 48 pounds. She's medium blond, but compared to my dark red boys, she looks lighter. She is an owner surrender. She is crate trained, housebroken and very, very sweet. Apparently she was an outdoor dog before, but she's obviously been in a house before. She has settled right in.
She met the cat later on Saturday. At first she growled and lunged at the cat. My cat quickly told Lucy the rules and Lucy now ignores the cat completely. I didn't quite understand that conversation, but it included some barks and growls from Lucy, followed by some hissing and spitting from the cat, a squeak from Lucy...and somewhere in there, an agreement was made. So, I'd say she's okay with cats.
Lucy didn't quite know what to do once we all went to bed, so around midnight, I put her in the kennel....she quieted right down and we all slept until morning.
This morning we went to the vet. She is now up-to-date on her shots and has a microchip. She had supplied a fecal sample before we left home and they drew blood to check for tick borne diseases. We'll get the results of those tests on Tuesday. She rode nicely in the back of my SUV and never made a peep, even when I stopped to get gas and went through McDonald's drivethrough. She did well at the vet and seems to like everyone she meets. She wasn't a big fan of the bordatella vaccine into her nose, but she tolerated the pokes without even flinching. The vet thought she could lose a couple of pounds to be at her ideal weight, but other than that she seems to be in great shape.
I took Lucy and one of my guys for a two-mile walk later in the day and she walks nicely. I don't believe she had ever worn a gentle leader before, but she adjusted quickly and did quite well.
I'll update again once I hear from the vet.
