SHORT HISTORY: Maggie Lu came into foster care on June 14th “Lu,” because we also have a dog named Maggie! She is a sweetheart of a girl. Maggie Lu first came into RAGOM due to expenses for ACL surgery and financial problems to take care of her. She was then surrendered to RAGOM and went into foster care and had her surgery.

She is now in our care again after a family who adopted her had to move out of state and could not take her with them. She lived with 3 children and was a wonderful pet. So, Maggie Lu has had a lot of changes in her life this past year.

To be CURRENT:

  • Maggie Lu is 7 years old.
  • She is overweight big time (obese), coming in at 105 pounds.
  • She is great with kids, other dogs, and cats.
  • She is very gentle and is quite shy.
  • She is great in the car/vehicle.
  • As a typical Golden, she loves her individual attention and pets.
  • She is current on all vaccinations and is spayed.
  • She is a great family girl.

WHAT WE KNOW thus far:

Lu came to us and did great on her ride here from Iowa. Due to her size, she needs help getting into and out of a vehicle. She does enjoy going, though, and rides very well. Lu is very friendly, but yet quite shy. She had introductions to our pack of 2 other dogs (a Border Collie mix who is 12 and a Pembroke Corgi who is 5) and 3 cats. This went just great. She is very stable and fine around other pets. She is fine with all of them being around; however, she is not dependant on them. Lu, with all of the changes in her life this past several moths, is hesitant and much prefers her safer spots, such as behind a chair in a corner or another room, and feels safe with all her "babies" and squeaky toys. She came with some smaller rubber balls which squeak and a couple of stuffed toys. Lu likes to gather up her "brood" and carry them around. She is not destructive at all. She LOVES the squeaky toys the best! So pretty when she perks her ears up and wants to play with her balls/toys. She is completely housetrained. The only time we have heard her bark/grumble is when she tried to scoot on her rear to itch herself. It is so cute.

She has a normal appetite and eats her food (2x a day, about a cup kibble and 1⁄2 cup green beans) quietly by the other crew. She is currently on pain meds (Tramadol tabs) and Benadryl for allergies. Pill pockets or cheese works super for those.

She asks to go outside and has had no accidents at all. She has been to our groomer and did fine, and she needed a major bath, trimming, and her nails cut! No problems there; she enjoys to be brushed. She came with pretty bad ear infections, so she is being treated with ear meds and they are doing much better and clearing up normally.

She would LOVE a sponsor or donations too! Our rescue cannot do it without your help!  Smile

UP TO A CHALLENGE OF A GOLDEN RESCUE GIRL?

Lu is such a lovely girl, beautiful inside and out, all 105 pounds of her, which is not her fault. Yes, she is on a diet which seems to be going fine; no current weight recently since we got her, but it has only been a little over a week. The challenge would be: if are you looking for a middle-aged, rescued Golden Retriever girl who needs patience, love, attention, a safe spot, and understanding. Who needs to continue to diet, to go slow to go exercise and work our way up to actual walks once some of this weight comes off, and a lot of love? She is an incredibly gentle girl, with more sad eyes, a big tail wag, and a sweet Golden groan/sound when she is happy. A big girl who loves big hugs? Who has love to give back! Much more to come with this beauty. If you are interested in this gentle, beautiful Golden girl, please contact your placement advisor.
