Profile
Mandy arrived at my home from Sioux City, Iowa on Monday. She was sooo hungry and nervous about her new situation, being found roaming the streets of Iowa with her two male companions, narrowly avoiding euthanasia because there was no room in the inn, being in heat, driving in a car with strangers for an entire day and ending up at the vet for examination. She needed a lot of reassurance and closeness the first 24 hours, but the second 24 hours she has really opened up, settled in, plays well with others (loves our golden) and listens. She is very eager to please, knows sit and is learning 'come'. She hasn't had an accident in the house and quickly takes care of business outside. She does need to work on not pulling on the leash, but seems to learn quickly, so I'm sure this won't be a steep learning curve for her.
The vet believes she is about 1.5-2 years old and is in good health besides being a little starved for food. She is about 44 lbs and is fine boned with a beautiful reddish/gold, silky, short coat, a flesh-colored nose and hazel eyes.
She is really a gorgeous and loving girl. I don't believe she has ever been inside, since she still crouches around in new rooms and is frightened by the fireplace, toilet, washer and dryer - even the fridge, but she is becoming more comfortable as time goes by and she begins to feel more safe and loved. She will be spayed as soon as we can determine whether she is coming out of or going into heat. We have to wait 7-10 days after her heat cycle to spay her. I have not seen any aggression from her. She has been around three resident dogs and her two Sioux City buds and just loves to play and wears that big golden smile!
