Profile

Marley arrived into the RAGOM family on Sunday with his litter mate, Harley. I would like to say a special thanks to Rona for picking them up, bringing him to the vet, and for getting them UTD on shots & frontline.  Also, thanks to John for transporting them to their foster families!  Marley is a 6 month old PB golden retriever.  He is red in color, with a little bit of curl.  He weighs 43 lbs and is a bundle of energy. Harley and Marley arrived and took off running around the backyard. The resident female golden had to check them out.  She growled a bit to let them know she's the resident dog.  They ran around the yard and then off Harley went to his foster home and Marley got to know Timber, the resident dog.
We had a very busy night with a young pup and a 3 yr old golden in our household.  They got along just fine.  Timber realized Marley wasn't going anywhere and she had to share her humans with Marley and all was good.  She was jealous at first but that didn't last long.  They were off playing before long.
The resident dog Timber even shared her toys and balls with Marley.  That surprised me a bit because she's been the only dog in the house for 8 weeks and she really likes her balls.
Marley doesn't really know what a crate is but he is learning.  He barked a bit and then settled down for the night. Early morning for all as they were up at 5:30am.  Marley went to the vet and had his neuter.  He is a very healthy pup.  He is recovering tonight at the vet after his neuter and will come home tomorrow.  Marley is negative on HW. Yeah!  He also had a negative fecal test.  Double yeah!
The surrending owner decided to surrender Marley and Harley because they were too active with 9 children in the house.  They spent a lot of time outside and in the garage and the former owner decided it would be best to give the dogs to RAGOM to find them new homes.  Marley is seeking a great home with a very active family.  I think a dog would benefit him as well, to help him burn off his puppy energy.
This is what I know so far:

  • Marley is good with other dogs (not sure about cats).
  • Marley has lived with kids.
  • Marley had a fenced yard and would probably do best in a fenced yard to run around in.
  • Marley needs to work on crate training.  We're using lots of treats to help him adapt to the crate.

I haven't taken him for a walk yet.  We will start slowly after his neuter since he needs to stay low key.  More to come on Marley as we continue to learn more about him!
Pictures are hard to come by, as he doesn't stand still. But here are a few to show you what a great pup he is:
Active Marley!
Puppy energy:  Marley never stops moving!
Handsome Marley!
Can we say, "handsome"?  That describes him pretty well!
