Please give a warm welcome to Max, a very handsome senior who will be 10 years young in April. Due to changes in his family's circumstances and not enough time to spend with him, his family asked RAGOM to find him a new home where he can enjoy his senior years with a loving family. I would also like to thank his family for a very generous donation that will help cover some of his vet bills etc. Max joins resident Jake, foster sister Dora, the pitty mix, and foster brother Sam 07-690.

I left from work to pick up Max and head for the vet.  I didn't plan well enough to remember my camera so I have no 'before' pictures only 'after' the haircut. Due to being an outdoor dog, Max had matting and some funky hair going on and it was easier to shave it all off, have a bath and put on a new collar and watch as his coat grows out beautifully for spring. Meanwhile I think a sweatshirt is in order at least for tomorrow. Though I think he is quite comfortable in the house without the 'coat' and it will help him to adjust to the indoor temps and living inside.

When a surrendering owner fills out a donation form and tells us about their dog it is to help us be aware of anything to watch for; ie chases cats, doesn't like squirrels, gets into garbage............and that one you should really pay attention to. I let the dogs out through the garage and they go out to the fenced area to play, potty etc and have the option to come back in the garage if they want. So this evening I let them all out for a play/potty break while I was on the phone. And suddenly a light bulb went off------GARBAGE----IN THE GARAGE------MAX  IN THE GARAGE. See where this is going. I went flying and sure enough Max had tipped the garbage can over and was generously sharing the turkey and bones with the crew!!!! RRRRRRRRRRR and bad foster mom for not paying attention to the part that said: 'likes to get into the garbage'!! I am so hoping I will not be wakened tonight by anyone doing the heave ho noise they make before throwing up....or worse.

Max is now up to date on his shots, is having his blood work done, is negative for heartworm, has the typical ear infection in both ears and so is on meds for that, was micro chipped and had 2 large masses aspirated and they will have to be removed as they interfer with the way he stands and walks.  We will get the results back soon and make the appointment for the surgery. At 88 lbs he is about 8 lbs over weight but I think going to feedings 2 times a day and playing with the troops, it should come off fairly easily. He was good as gold at the vet and when I returned they were finishing up shaving him ,and he finally just layed down and closed his eyes and let them finish up.   I had brought Dora with for a weigh in and he and Dora hit it off immediately and have been friends since then.

The meet and greet with Sam, resident Jake and neighbor Lake went well over all.  Lake is a year old and while Dora loves the in your face greeting, Max wasn't in the mood and let Lake know immediately........ Lake was soon on his back being submissive and all was fine after that.  Coulter the Cat made his appearance and Max was a bit too interested for Coulter, so we will watch and let him adjust to the cats.  Dora chases them and waps them with a paw, but not sure yet what Max will do.

Since Max is accustomed to being outside and doing his duties out side, we have had no accidents in the house tonight. He has played hard, took his treats nicely and is sound asleep. How it all goes with 4 dogs in the room tonight---I will let  you know.  He is a very sweet boy, doesn't act his age, loves to play with the dogs, chew bones, plays tug and nudges your hand for some lovin. He will be a joyful addition to any family.

Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of Max and the crew.
