I am please to introduce a new RAGOM boy...Max! The best way to describe Max is almost golden and almost perfect! Max is a 12-18 month old golden mix, thought to be Golden Retriever and Australian Shepherd. He looks very Golden other than his 49 lb. frame, white tuft on his chest and bright gold eyes.
Max was found at a resort in northern MN as a stray that had been hanging around a fishing lodge for about a week. A very nice family from the Twin Cities was there and took him into their fish house for warmth and some food. When they realized he had no collar, no tag, no microchip and no search party, they contacted RAGOM and he started his golden life! Max is very grateful to this family who gave him a wonderful start to his RAGOM life.
Max came to us on Wednesday (thank you Jim!) and has been an absolute delight. He met our resident princess, a 14 year old cockapoo, Trixie with great manners and she loves him! While he was at the nice family's house for several days he was around older children and cats without any issue. He has not had any accidents, barks to go out, knows lots of commands and has not chewed on a thing.
Max went to the veterinarian this weekend and she gave us more information on his possible breed and age, as mentioned above. She said he seemed to be a very healthy young man! Max did however test positive for exposure to two tick borne diseases- lyme's and anaplasma. He is not showing any clinical symptoms of these diseases but at some point was exposed. Max is unlikely to ever be ill from this, but he could possibly show symptoms later in life and it would be treated then. The vet explained this is nothing to be concerned about as he seems to be in fantastic health.
Kennel training has been a new thing for Max but he is doing very well. He needs some persuasion (treats) to go in and he cries and howls for a few minutes and then is just fine and goes to sleep. He has been staying in his crate during the day while we are at work and sleeping on a dog bed by ours during the night. He likes to hop in bed right before he goes in his for a few cuddles and then likes to sleep alone in his bed.
There are only a few Max quirks we have found! Max LOVES attention and being right by his people ALL the time. If he is unable to see you or be right next to you he has quite a loud and very cute howl that he saves for calling his people and expressing happiness with playing! Max is a picky eater, he likes his food and that is about it! He is currently very much enjoying duck and sweet potato all-natural dry food but has no interest in human food, even healthy human food our resident princess dog gets made for her!
Max will be neutered next week and ready to meet his new family. We think he would enjoy a family with lots of energy as he loves to play, lots of love as he loves to kiss and lots of time as he is a very young boy who loves to be around his family, not in his crate! Please stayed tuned for more info on this sweet, sweet boy!
