I would like to introduce you to Millie. Millie is a beautiful 67-pound purebred Golden Retriever who will be having a birthday soon! She will be six years old on 7-24-14. Millie's family loved her very much and have had her since she was a puppy.
Millie is as sweet as sweet can be. She has no aggression, no guarding of food or toys. She is not bothered by dogs, but I do feel she would like just one other dog in the home. She will get up and bark at my two resident dogs when they run and play. Millie is very mellow and will just lay down by your feet. She has got on the couch a few times, but most of the time, she just prefers the floor.
She has not been cat tested, but judging by her laid-back personality, I don't feel they would be an issue. Millie lived with younger children and I have teenagers and she is not bothered by them at all. She does not jump up, so I don't believe knocking over young children would be a problem. Millie's previous home had a fenced yard, as do I, so I feel she would be happiest in a home that has a fence, but it is not required.
Millie takes phenobarbital for seizures twice a day. She also was taking potassium bromide when she first arrived at my home, but the combo of the two meds caused her to be very tired. The vet checked her levels and decided to stop the potassium bromide and just continue with the phenobarbital. She is doing great! Millie had two seizures in February and one in March and has not had a seizure since.
Millie is on a grain-free diet and eats twice a day. She walks like a dream on a Gentle Leader and also likes car rides. She will call shotgun, though, and not want to get in the back. :) Millie is housebroken. She did have free roam at her previous home, but Millie was on prednisone for a hot spot when she first arrived and it caused excessive thirst and it was hard for her to hold it all night. We now kennel her in our room and she sleeps quietly all night long and keeps her kennel clean. She is done with the prednisone and she doesn't drink as much, so she may be OK with free roam again.
If you are looking for a laid-back girl that likes to go on short walks or maybe a car ride, and then come back and relax by your feet while you watch a movie, Millie is your girl.
