3/30/07: Introducing pretty Nikki. Another one of the dogs rescued from North Dakota on Saturday, Nikki is very shy. Nikki spent the first few days in her temporary foster home and moved to her permanent foster home on Tuesday night. I am absolutely relieved and thrilled to report that she is now eating, drinking, and eliminating - all things that she was too scared to do for three days! She has met my four dogs and gently sniffed them, but so far hasn't gotten up the nerve to interact with them. She had a bath and a brush (which she seemed to enjoy, or at least tolerated nicely) and for now, we're just letting her chill out, relax and hopefully learn to trust us. She has free roam of the lower level of our home, but pretty much just stays in one spot. I don't kennel her during the day, as there's no reason to. Frankly, she doesn't hardly move from one spot to the next while I'm at work so she can't really get into any trouble. She'll be going to the vet this weekend and then we'll have a better guess at her age (right now, I'm guessing between 2 and 3). She's beautiful, she's gentle, she tears at our heartstrings. Can't wait for the day when the tail comes up and wags and she runs and plays in the yard with the resident dogs or comes up to us for a pet. It will happen, and she deserves it.
