Profile

Porsche is one of those dogs people write wonderful stories of courage about.  Two days before her 5th month birthday she was stepped on while going down stairs and broke her back.  It is now two days after her surgery and she is in the loving hands of RAGOM.  We picked her up from the vets office today and brought her home where she needs to be confined in a small x-pen for 6 weeks.  I have yet to see a Golden that has a better temperament.  Even when she is in extreme pain she only cries out.  When I put my face next to her she licks my chin.  Her wonderful temperament is what saved her from being euthanized.  The caring people at the vets office asked the owner to surrender her so that we could work with her and help her walk again.  She is feeling pain and is able to move one of her back legs.  tonight when she had to potty she fretted and fretted and tried to get up and walk so that she wouldn't mess the house.  Finally after 45 minutes she finally allowed herself to relax and let me help her.  Because she is confined I am using pads so that she doesn't have to lay in a mess.  She tried to stand while she was struggling to get outside and wouldn't take "no" for an answer.  Now that she is cleaned up she is exhausted and sleeping like a baby.

Porsche is a little red pupper about the size of a minute.  I've never seen such a small Golden.  This is a good thing since she is also such a determined patient.  I'm looking forward to spending time working with her and trying to find things to challenge her intelligent mind while keeping her quiet.

We have an office visit with the surgeon in 10 days and then again at the end of 8 weeks so that we can get x-rays and reevaluate where she is at.  She has a long road ahead of her with physical therapy.  We were told she has a 50/50 chance of walking again.  This one has to be blessed; with all she's been through and as determined as she is already, I am confident she won't take "no" for an answer.

Rehabilitation for Porsche will be a costly venture.  Porsche is going to need the love and support of many RAGOM friends.
