O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Romeo was found as a stray in South Dakota with his girl, Juliet. He was picked up and brought to the shelter where no one claimed him... that is where RAGOM comes to the rescue :) Fast forward a couple of weeks and now he is here being fostered in Stillwater. We are so lucky, this dog is perfection :) A big huge thank you to Kris for allowing Romeo to hang at her house for a week until we could take him.
Romeo is estimated to be about 10 years old, and is a neutered, male, Golden Retriever. Romeo was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and is on two different antibiotics to help clear things up. He seems to be responding well to the medication and after a few days of no appetite he is eating again, yay! His runny nose, cough, and wheezing are all improving but it will likely be a couple of weeks before he is back to 100%. Keep your paws crossed that he continues on this road to recovery. Other than the pneumonia and having an elevated white blood cell count because of it, the rest of his senior bloodwork came back looking great! He has some lumps and bumps that are common in dogs his age, none that the vet is concerned about. His teeth are pretty awful, so he could really use a good dental cleaning, his coat is in poor condition, and he is very itchy. So, we have a few things to attend to. He has a tiny bit of stiffness in his hind end, but warms up out of it when he gets going in the morning (I can relate!).
Romey is the perfect house guest! He is totally house trained, knows basic commands, loves our resident dogs, and our little boy :) He is perfect on a leash, sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom quietly all night long, doesn't bark, takes treats gently.... you get the picture! This guy was definitely a house dog and well loved at some point in his life... this is one of those times when I wish he could tell me his story! Romey smiles all the time, is a velcro dog, and wags his tail the minute you look at him. We are in love!
We will keep you updated on how this sweet boy is feeling. Stay Tuned!
