Ruby is a gorgeous lady of the Bismarck puppy mill.  She is estimated around 7 years old and has most likely had numerous litters of golden pups.  She came into our home without much outward physical damage, other than the condition of her coat and her rather... unpleasant smell.   Her neck chain had been embedded and needed to be removed with bolt cutters.  She was shy and timid at first, as is typical of puppy mill  rescues.  But that is her past, she has a bright future ahead.  She has learned to trust us very quickly, and was accepted immediately by our resident dogs as a member of their pack.  She loves having a crate of her own and enjoys its feeling of security.  She will already come out for petting and love, and within 24 hours of coming home she does the golden "back in" for hugs. Today she discovered tummy rubs and actually grunts and groans when you hit the right spot!  What a personality! A half hour in the tub brought out a beautiful deep red lady and her coat will get more and more lustrous with some more good food and grooming.

Ruby has some medical issues that need to be addressed before she is ready to join her forever home.  She is somewhat lethargic and sleeps a lot, even for a dog who probably never had a comfortable place to sleep before.  She is not eating consistently.  One ear is severly infected.  As she had never been in a house before, it is not surprising to note that she is not housetrained.  (Efforts to remedy this have already begun.)  And she will need to be spayed as soon as possible.  It will be a cause for celebration when her surgery is done and we will all know that her days as a breeding factory are over forever.  Her confidence grows with each passing day.  Her first vet appointment is in a few days and more updates will follow.  Until then she is not available for adoption.  We look forward to getting a clean bill of health for this lovely lady.
