Rozzie 11-192 [1]

Welcome Rozzie! Rozzie is a gorgeous 5 year old purebred GR that joins RAGOM due to a family member's severe allergies. It was a very difficult decision for the family, but they knew that RAGOM would help Rozzie find a good home. We have quickly fallen in love with Rozzie and know that he will be a wonderful addition to a family. Rozzie has been to the vet and was found to be very healthy. His weight is 71 pounds, which is perfect for his frame as he is tall and lean. He does take medication twice a day for a urinary spinchter that does not close completely, but with the medicaiton he has no issues. The medication is inexpensive ($20 for 3 months) and fRozzie takes it after each meal without problems (it's his treat!). The vet stated that he may be weaned to one tablet a day or might possibly stop the medication in the future. Rozzie has not had accidents in the house, even with free roam, and he goes to the bathroom right away when we take him out and on walk. Rozzie is a typical golden in that he loves his people, especially children. We have two children, ages 6 and 8, and they love to play with Rozzie. I have noticed that when we are out and Rozzie hears or sees children, he wants to be with them. We feel that he would do best in a home with children because of how he responds to them and would likely do well with children of all ages. Rozzie met our resident golden mix and the first introduction was a little tense, but after a walk together they were fine. In the last 5 days there have been a few interactions between the two, most likely related to who is in charge, but the interaction is quickly ended with verbal instruction from us. Rozzie lived with two other dogs at his former home, so Rozzie is used to being with other dogs, but based on his behavior with my resident and my parent's GR, I believe Rozzie needs a slower introduction to new dogs. Rozzie has not been exposed to cats before and has been very interested in our resident cat. We are not concerned about him hurting our cat, but he can be overbearing with our cat due to his curiosity, however, his behavior is easily corrected with verbal instruction. Rozzie does have an allergy to corn and rawhides, which can lead to hotspots and excessive shedding, but with a grain-free diet and avoidance of rawhides, he is fine. Plus he LOVES to be brushed, so the shedding is kept to a minimum. Rozzie loves to go on walks and would make an excellent running partner. Rozzie likes to ride in the car, but could work on sitting better while in the car. Rozzie likes balls and would love a big yard to run in to chase his balls, but probably doesn't need a physical fence as he responds very well to his name. In addition, his previous owner's reported that he stayed on 5 acres without a fence or electric collar. Rozzie LOVES to swim and has been enjoying cooling off in the kiddie pool. We haven't taken him to the lake, but I can only guess that he would love the lake. With it being the 4th of July weekend, we've had a lot of fireworks at our house and Rozzie isn't too sure about them. He isn't as scared as our resident dog, but I don't think hunting is in his future. We did have a thunderstorm this past week and he did not show any storm anxiety. Rozzie knows simple commands, such as sit and shake, but would benefit from obedience training. He is quite excited when it is time to go outside and we have been working on sitting before he can go out the door. He is vey food driven and would do very well with obedience training. Rozzie is not a velcro dog, but does like to be petted and will nudge you or paw you for a pet. One of his favorite places to be petted is his paws and he will roll over to have his tummy scratched. He sleeps on the floor by our bed, but will get on the bed or couch if asked and he makes a great cuddle partner. I can't say enough great things about Rozzie and feel that the following would be best for his forever home:-a family with children that will play with Rozzie-another dog or cat would probably be fine, but Rozzie would love to be the only dog to get all the attention-a yard that Rozzie can run around in, but a fence is not necessary, and-a family that is committed to feeding Rozzie the right food, giving him his medication, and taking him to obedience training to become an even better dog If you are interested in meeting Rozzie, please contact your placement advisor.
