Ruby 05-015 [1]

Ruby is a beautiful 18 month old female who just had a litter of 8 puppies 7 weeks ago. All the puppies are now gone and one, Rex 05-016, is in foster care also. She has a very soft and silky medium red coat, so I suppose that is why they named her Ruby. She is housetrained, crate trained and responds well to her name. She loves playing with toys and has never taken any of our things to play with. Ruby came from a puppy mill situation where this woman was breeding all kinds of dogs in her house. There were dogs, puppies and crates everywhere. She said she decided to get out of the large breed business and just continue with the small breeds.

Ruby has some skin mites that she has had one treatment for and will need two more. She also has an ear infection that we are treating. The vet said it is too soon after the puppies were born to spay her so we will wait a few weeks. After that she should be ready for her forever home.

Ruby is a cuddler and always wants her head in my lap or on my shoulder. She also wants a paw in my lap or 2 or 3 or 4! We are trying to teach her that she is not a lap dog and one paw is good but 4 is too many on mom's lap. She also loves to jump up on people and this was encouraged at the house she was living in. The 2 kids (about 8 and 10) were showing us how cute it is when she jumps up and gives you a hug. Now when she does that we just turn around and walk away from her so hopefully that behavior will start to fade. We have left her alone in the house with free roam for 4 to 5 hours with no problems at all. She is quite thin but has a good appetite and hopefully will put on some weight now that she is no longer nursing puppies.
