11/12/13:

I’m very pleased to introduce you to Peaches, a lovely spayed female golden retriever with the sweetest personality you’ll ever find!  Peaches was found as a stray in northern Minnesota but she has obviously been someone’s special girl.  Hard to imagine how she came to be on her own – it’s a mystery.  But  we do know some things for sure:

  • Peaches has impeccable house manners and she seems ready to give up her wandering ways.
  • She doesn’t get on the furniture unless you ask her but then she moves quickly just in case you might change your mind.
  • She has had no accidents and has quickly learned the rhythm and routine of the household and gets along with all our resident dogs.
  • She absolutely loves her dog bed and sleeps in the bedroom with us, hardly moving a muscle all night.
  • She knows basic obedience like sit and down and of course, shake.  We’re guessing she knows more commands but we just haven’t figured out the right words to use yet.  She’s a very smart girl.

The vet estimates Peaches is around 4 years old and she is now current on all her shots.  She weighs about 70 pounds and is a medium sized fairly quiet young lady.  She enjoys playing with the other dogs but really hasn’t joined in any of the barking or romping in the backyard.  Her real joy in life seems to be carrying toys around, hoping to convince someone to toss them so she can do her retriever moves.  We’re very cautious, however, about throwing things for Peaches because her knees are bothering her.  Her x-rays show that she has arthritis in both knees and needs to take it easy.  She manages stairs easily and there really isn’t anything she can’t do (did I mention she’ll get up on the furniture if you ask her?) but we don’t want to cause any unnecessary wear and tear on her knees.  She is a great dog – loves to go for rides, would hang her head outside the car window if we’d let her, and is very upbeat and energetic.  She would be a great dog for a family who didn’t have young children or who didn’t want a running companion.  She’s the kind of dog that follows you around, comes up and rests her head on your lap if you give her the opportunity.  When we’re in the car, her favorite thing is to stand in the backseat and rest her head on my husband’s shoulder.  So cute!

Peaches was found by a professional dog groomer who carefully removed her matted hair and shampooed her so that her coat just shines.  With the weather turning colder, we’re really glad that Peaches made her way to RAGOM and isn’t fending for herself any longer.  If you think Peaches might be a good match for your household, please contact your Placement Advisor.  We’d like to see Peaches go to a family without young children (she gets very excited about her toys!) and where she can enjoy a fenced yard.  She has an absolutely sweet personality and is one of the best couch snugglers we’ve ever met!
