Profile
Samantha has been at my house since Monday noonish. I picked her up from her surrendering owner and brought her across the river to my house, introduced her to my two male goldens (who are used to dogs coming and going) and to the female golden I'm babysitting for the week (who isn't as friendly with dogs coming and going). It all went very smoothly. Her surrendering family has three very young kids, so we know she's kid-proof! Given her reaction to the dogs she met on Monday, she's also good with other dogs. When we entered my house, she was greeted by the cat....10 pounds of calico fury. I'm sure the cat thought "Oh no, not another dog!" Sammy barked at the cat and cat hissed and spit at her...that was it, the dog knew who ruled.
Samantha is 12 years old. She lived with her surrendering family for 10 years. They adopted her from Ragom when she was two years old. She has adjusted very quickly to living at my house. Sammy is a yellow lab, probably a purebred. She's a good weight at 73 pounds. Being a typical lab, she has been eating well for both of the meals she's had so far.
We went to the vet on Monday afternoon. Given her age, they took blood and urine samples. The vet we saw was off on Tuesday, so she said she'd call me on Wednesday. Sammy now has a microchip but she was already up to date with her other shots. The physical exam went well.
So far, she has been the perfect house guest. I'll update more as we get to know her. However, if you want to adopt a senior girl, please email your placement advisor.
