Roy was a stray found by a Good Samaritan as he crawled through a barbed wire fence in northern Minnesota. This wonderful family bathed him, cleaned his ears, trimmed his nails, fed him and pulled about a hundred ticks off him! He is very skinny. They weren't able to keep him so they called RAGOM. I picked him up last night.
Roy appears to be nearly blind and about 1 year old. He was seen at the vet today and is up to date now on his vaccinations. He still needs to be neutered after he is seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist. He has ear infections in both ears, an eye infection and many many scabs. Who knows what this boy has been in and out of trying to find his way through the woods blind?
Amazingly, he is very friendly and trusting of people and is getting along with my resident Goldens. He let the vet do lots of poking and prodding without a fuss. I think Roy is very smart and is already learning the perimeters of my house and fence. He doesn't bump into the walls nearly as much as last night. I think he can see a little bit--maybe just contrasts in light--because he can walk right up to me even when I am quiet.
The main thing is to get him healthy and keep him safe as he explores. Thank you RAGOM and Good Samaritans Kathy, Jim and Billy Jean.
Roy will be unavailable until his eyes are checked out and he is neutered.
