Please welcome Tank to the RAGOM family. Tank is a 10 ½ year old male PB Golden Retriever. He is a wonderful mixture of energetic and laid-back. Tank came to RAGOM from a family who wanted a better life for this old guy than they were able to give him right now. Tank is neutered and up-to-date on his shots. He’s not built like a “tank” as he is long and lean. He weighs 56 lbs. and he should probably be at 60 – 62 lbs. We’re working on adding some meat to those bones (with Tank’s enthusiastic help!).
Tank saw our Vet earlier this week. He has no parasites, his ears are clean, his eyes look good, and he tested negative for Heartworm and Lyme’s Disease. His bloodwork did come back with readings that may or may not indicate some kidney issues so he will be going back to the clinic for further tests. Until we find out the results we are listing Tank as “Unavailable”.
This boy is such an interesting mix of personalities. At times, you look at him and think that he epitomizes the wise old soul.
Five minutes later you glance over and he looks and acts like a silly puppy (although a pup with a white face).
Tank has integrated quickly into our family. He gets along great with his foster brother Beau and our two cats. He showed mild interest in them at first and now completely ignores them (and they him). He met one of our grandkids yesterday and was happy to see him. He greets visitors at the door enthusiastically.
We’re learning more about Tank every day he is with us. He knows “sit”, “down”, and “stay”. When told “no” he will stop whatever he is doing. Our dogs get treats every time they come in from outside and he joins his foster brother in picking up the pace as he gets near home after a walk. He is very treat motivated. Tank does love to go for walks and walks nicely on a leash with a flat collar. He doesn’t seem to like to fetch or to play with balls but he loves, loves, loves to chew on an elk antler. He and Beau got into a bit of a spat the first time we brought the bones out. We’re working with them both now, under supervision, and they’ve pretty well learned that if there are any spats the bones get taken away. The last three days things have been fine. They sleep next to each other on adjoining dog beds next to our bed.
Hopefully we’ll know more in a week or two about whether he has any health issues. We’ll try to do another update in a week or so as we learn more about his personality. He’s a sweet boy who will make someone a wonderful companion – please stay tuned!
