Miss Teddy landed in the great state of Minnesota last week and she has sure wormed her way into our hearts since then. She is a gorgeous Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix (our best guess anyway) who is roughly a year old and weighs a petite 40 lbs. Teddy was found in Minot, North Dakota, as a stray that was most likely hit by a car. A RAGOM volunteer pulled her from the pound up there, and she spent some time in a foster home before making her way south to us. While she was with her temporary foster, Teddy suddenly stopped walking and eating. After some vet trips, it was decided that she had HOD (Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy) which sounds very scary, but in reality is a bone disease that occurs in large breed dogs when they grow too fast. Dogs grow out of it and the majority of time have no long-term issues because of it. She has been on prednisone for a little over 2 weeks and is doing great. She is running around the house and playing with our resident dog Cody. We are in the process of weaning her off the steroids, and in the next 2 weeks, she will be done and we’ll see how she does after that. Enough with the boring stuff, let’s talk about how great this little peanut is!
Teddy has to be one of the most joyous dogs I’ve ever met. She is constantly wiggling and happy. Her favorite thing to do is to carry things around and bring shoes and socks to everyone that comes to visit.
Not to mention this sweet girl is a champion snuggler. Her coat is beautiful and so soft that everyone can’t help but touch her. To sweeten the pot even more, this cutie patootie is very, very smart. In just a week, she has learned to sit and wait for her food, heal, stay, come, down, and hot. She would make a great therapy dog. After two days, she has settled into our routine beautifully. After a few bumps, we have the potty thing figured out, and she will tell us when she has to go potty. She gets along great with our resident dog, and I do believe she would do best with another dog in the house. Her previous foster noticed the same thing. She loves to play with other dogs and when she can’t see me or Cody, she cries, so I think having a friend would probably be better for her. Teddy does great with our 5-year-old daughter and all of the neighborhood kids, and I think she would be a fabulous family dog. Anyone that gets this girl is going to be one lucky family. She is a delightfully silly, happy, wiggly bundle of love. I can’t emphasize enough how sweet this princess is. She’s dreaming in her sleep in my lap right now as we speak, running after something like crazy.
