10/22/07: Vernon is a purebred golden who came into RAGOM as a stray. The vet thinks he is approximately 7-8 years old. He is a very happy boy who is so glad to have some attention. Vernon is left for a full work day and we have had no accidents, which is great. He is a velcro dog and follows you wherever you go. He is very well mannered and great to have around.
Vernon came to us with a matted coat, full of fleas and was also diagnosed with tapeworm and giardia. Well, all of those issues have been addressed and I am quite sure the poor guy is feeling much better now. His coat is dry and kind of brittle, but that will improve over time after being fed a better diet.
Vernon does not seem to be a barker, knows sit and down, walks pretty darn good on a leash as he seems to know the word "heel". When we first start out, he does pull a little bit, but it isn't long and he walks right next to your side. He loves car rides, belly rubs, and even tries to get into your lap if you are sitting on the floor. He loves to fetch a tennis ball too. We have been taking it a little easy since I don't think he is used to a lot of exercise.
Vernon is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. Vernon does have Entropion, which is the inward rolling of the eyelid, most commonly the lower lid, in his left eye. We will be getting surgery scheduled to fix that. I am sure he will feel much better not having his eyelashes rub on his eye.
We had a couple of "doggy visitors" for the day on Saturday, so we had five dogs out in the yard with us while we raked leaves. Here is a photo of four of them trying to get some attention. It was a great day to be outside and enjoy the sunshine. If you would like to meet Vernon, please let RAGOM know.
