Profile

Chance is a wonderful 9 month old male who has recently been neutered, microchipped, and brought up to date on all his shots. He was rescued from the Mason City, Iowa animal control, and like many great dogs was close to being euthanized. The shelter was full and when the next dog arrived, one of the existing dogs was going to be picked for you know what. Well RAGOM got him out of there pronto and now he is safely in Minnesota. He was advertised as a PB Golden but seems to have a bunch of Yellow Lab in him. He is sweet, loving, curious, and a typical 9 month old puppy. He needs to finish reading "Dog Etiquette for Dummies" but once he has finished the book, we are sure he will understand that A) no - you cannot jump on people even when they are trying to pat you, B) yes - you can cross the street but not when we say STAY and C) yes - most other dogs would like to say hello but not when you are lunging because you want to play.

3/3 - Update

Chance arrived yesterday after a long ride in a kennel from Iowa to the Twin Cities. He was really wired, excited, and wanted to check everything out IMMEDIATELY. However after several good walks and a little attention, he calmed down and was very well behaved in the house. He slept next to our bed and had a good night's sleep. Today he is MUCH more relaxed and easy to handle. He is learning the neighborhood and loves to walk. Here's what we have learned so far:

  • he is very sweet and loving, eager to please, curious
  • he is very smart and has already learned SIT
  • we had the opportunity to play with another dog off leash and they got along fine
  • he appears housebroken. No accidents and when we take him out, he does his business pretty quick so we are pretty sure he knows the difference between inside and outside
  • we left him for about 30 minutes today and no problems

What he needs is

  • a good bath but since he was recently neutered we need to wait about week
  • some typical obedience training for a 9 mos old dog.

Chance will make a great family dog for an active couple.
