This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
We welcomed him to our home on Monday Oct 26th . He came to us 25lbs underweight and had a bad urinary infection. The infection has cleared up and he is starting to put on weight. We had to re-potty train because the infection affected his ability to hold his water causing him to have many accidents. As time has gone on he has had a lot fewer accidents. Introducing him to our resident dog went really well they get along like old pals now.
· He rarely barks other than to let you know he wants your attention, and loves contact with his humans.
· We’ve had a tough time understanding his “I need to go out “ signals so we started to let him out at two hour intervals then stretched it a bit to lengthen that time every few days. He has no problems when he is in his crate overnight and during the day while we are gone.
· He is cat friendly.
· We are now working with him on jumping up on people when they come to visit, this sometimes works into him using peoples legs in an “affectionate” way.
Recent activities and training
· He walks ok on a leash but pulls a bit we’ll work on that.
· Has no resource guarding. Shares a water dish with our resident dog without problems, and patiently trades chew toys with our resident dog.
· He has been gaining weight slowly, and his urinary infection is cleared. Jumping up is a work in progress.
Personality we are noticing
· This dog is a true lover, and loves to cuddle to his humans. Lot of nose to hand nudge for pets. He has been Foster Dads shadow; follows him everywhere.
· He takes treats more gentle than our resident dog and follows commands like sit, no and goes to his crate without any trouble.
· He has free run of the house when we are home and has been in his crate while we are away and seems very comfortable in it.
· He does well with recall. We walk on the frozen lake and work on long distance recall and he comes when called.
His forever family could have another dog and cats would be ok. D oes not require a fence. He is a gentle soul who loves to have his humans touch him constantly. He has a lot of love to share.
