Meet the sweet and friendly Shiloh. Shiloh came from bad conditions in a puppy mill, but it hasn't quenched her sweet spirit. This 6 year old female is a tail-wagger and wants to be your friend!  She is timid and startles easily, as is usually true of a puppy mill momma, but after just a few hours with her we think she's going to make a wonderful pet.

She is very treat-motivated at this time...we were out of dog treats around here (what kind of foster family would run out of treats!) but she has already learned to sit for a few Cheerios! She had a bath tonight and is smelling and looking much better. She came into RAGOM a week ago with a number of health issues (various infections, broken tooth, worms) but has already had that bad tooth removed and with meds over the past week while in vet care, is well on the way to recovery on the other issues. Her broken tooth has been extracted, and she will be spayed in the next couple of weeks. Then she will be ready for a loving forever family!

We're planning to bring Shiloh to the RAGOM picnic on Saturday, look for her in the foster showcase at 1 p.m.! If you're interested in a sweet gentle girl who'd love to learn about the golden life with you, be sure to come and meet Shiloh on Saturday!

It is with a broken heart that I write to notify you all that Chris and I assisted Shiloh (07-557), onto her final journey on May 10th.

She was diagnosed with a probable brain tumor back in October. We had her on 3 anti seizure meds knowing once the break through seizures started, we would have to put her down. She started in with break through seizures on Tuesday of last week. As we have watched her slowly fail in front of our own eyes, we decided it was in her best interest to set her free. In the comfort of our loving arms in our kitchen at home, we set her free. She has been such a trooper through this entire process. We just couldn't ask any more of her for our own interests.

She has been a spectacular companion her entire life. She started in a puppy mill for 5+ years and ended up with us. She has taught us so much about life and has been an exceptional friend to us. She was a wonderful mother figure to Hope and Pete as well. Despite her early abuse in the mill, she had the most loving heart and gentle personality. She has been the only dog to consistently earn us a "good dog discount" at the kennel. As long as she had food, a treat or a tennis ball she was as happy as a clam. Every night she went up to bed with me. Every night I told her, of all the dogs in the whole world, we chose her. She would always wag her tail and after a kiss we went to bed. I know Hanna and Abby were there to greet her and take her under their wings when she "arrived".

I want to extend a special thank you to Lynette, Allison and their family for the great foster home they provided her with. Jaden really helped to crack her shell and she blossomed with us. Thanks for believing in us to adopt her. We spoiled her from day one through May 10th, 2012. RAGOM, there are no words to express how awesome you are. The medical bills you paid so we could bring home a "healthy dog", amazing. Our hat goes off to your entire staff and volunteers. Without a doubt you all are the best. Jaden, know many years down the road you will have a friend waiting for you at the bridge.

Shiloh, you were the best. I look forward to being with you again someday. Until then, sleep with the angels sweet cheeks. I miss you so!!!!

Love Mom XO

If you look in the sky tonight, there will be a new bright star ... Shiloh letting us know she is OK :)

From Shiloh Girl's forever family...

I'm sure many people may be wondering where sweet little Hope with the pink cast on her hind leg landed. My husband and I were lucky enough to win the approval of her foster family and bring her to central Iowa. She is growing like a weed (47 pounds) and her leg is as strong and normal as ever. Even on the ice we have received thus far, she has had no problems getting around.

Hope was greeted by her big sister Shiloh, who we adopted in December of 2007. Shiloh spent the first 5.5 years of her life in a puppy mill in Arkansas. Once turned over from there she went to an auction in Oklahoma and was then sent to RAGOM. A wonderful foster family took her in and showed her the ropes to being a normal golden. When we adopted Shiloh, we had a resident golden role model who we sadly had to put down in September due to cancer. We decided it was in Shiloh's best interest to have a second dog in the house and who doesn't want a home filled with goldens? Hope and Shiloh are like 2 peas in a pod. They play all day long, love walking twice a day (except when it was 50 below last week) and are spoiled rotten on an hourly basis. They are living the true golden life.

When Shiloh first arrived, she was terribly afraid of my husband. She was afraid of door ways, was timid, and just not sure of herself. She has fully blossomed and loves all people, male and female. She is out of her shell and loving life to the fullest. She and Hope are inseparable. I have included pictures from Christmas morning. The real winners in these adoptions were my husband and me. They bring us more joy and smiles than we could ever hope for.

Thank you RAGOM for all you do for these wonderful dogs, and we can't thank the foster families enough who believed in us and gave us the opportunity to raise two beautiful girls. I can guarantee they will continue to know nothing but love and fun from this day forth.

Here's a new photo of the Girl, with her beloved tennis ball!  Shiloh recently stayed with another foster temporarily while our family was out of town.  Here is her report:

I just wanted to send you a really quick note to thank you for allowing me to enjoy your beautiful foster girl.  She was the absolute perfect house guest and both Red and Sky are completely smitten with her charm.  She was respectful of my crabby senior girl, Molly - who has reason to be crabby since she had cancer surgery on Tuesday.  Shiloh took everything in stride and was a true joy to have as a house guest.  If I needed another dog, I would adopt her in an instant.  (My furkids tell me that since I only have two hands and three dogs, I really do not NEED another dog.)  In spite of numbers of furkids, Shiloh is welcome back to my house anytime.

Thank you again for allowing me the pleasure of being Shiloh's temp foster mom.

Shiloh Girl is going to make a wonderful addition to someone's household.  Contact Placementatragom [dot] org if you'd like a chance to meet this sweetie!

Here as promised are photos of this sweet girl.  She's starting to relax in our home after about 48 hours here--she's very comfortable in her crate but just starting to relax with free roam of a room or area, we were all so pleased to see her stretch out on the living room rug earlier today.  Shiloh girl has not had an accident in the house yet--I definitely think she's housebroken.  We have a little old Bichon Frise who is guaranteed to lift his leg outdoors within 10 feet of the door, so he's mentoring Shiloh on where to relieve herself, and she follows his lead faithfully every time!  Shiloh and our resident golden are ignoring each other, which is interesting as the resident usually views every new dog as the next best playmate, but somehow the resident knows to treat Shiloh with a bit more respect.  Shiloh got a long car ride today and did very well in the car.  She did even better on the return trip, even fell asleep in the back seat.  Shiloh girl is also starting to act like a golden retriever...note stuffed animal firmly inserted in mouth for one photo!  She's happiest with a stuffie in her mouth.  So only good progress to report today!
